The word "Deacon" means "servant".  Along with the Pastor they serve the congregation in spiritual matters, praying for the needs of the people, providing devotional readings for Advent and Lent,  preparing for Communion and planning the worship services throughout the year. The Ushers are part of the team as they greet people, pass out bulletins, receive the offering and care for the comfort of the congregation while they are worshipping.
